Take away the large percentage of teenagers in their fanbase, they really are talented metal musicians that put together one hell of a punch of horror themed, fast, angry extreme thrash metal in this album. I can't say the same for their other albums, they vary, but this is their best and will always be their best.

Slipknot is a band where they were at their peak when they first started. Fresh out of Iowa, being poor, struggling, angry, hungry to rip each other and their music apart; their first album was destined to be a monster. Some of the songs were recorded in their technical first release, Mate. That album was released on an independent label and when they signed to Road Runner, their self titled became their first official release.
